January Concentrated Courses

SANCA’s January Concentrated Courses are immersive training sessions geared towards physically fit individuals ages 18-25 who are interested in expanding their knowledge of acrobatic and/or aerial circus arts.

The acrobatic concentrated course runs Monday, January 2 through Friday, January 13, 2017.
The aerial concentrated course runs Monday, January 16 through Friday, January 27, 2017.
Class will be held Monday – Friday from 10am-12:30pm and 1:30pm-4pm.

All classes will take place at the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts at 674 S. Orcas St. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle. Students are responsible for their own housing, meals, and transportation.

Course Descriptions: 

709380ac74_wt11-3-sancaBeginning/Intermediate Acrobatics Concentrated Course
The acrobatics concentrated course will focus on handstands, tumbling, trampoline, partner acrobatics, conditioning, and flexibility. Students will also have the opportunity to work on other circus disciplines such as tightwire, rolling globe, and juggling. Students can expect to learn proper technique, basic vocabulary, and gain strength and flexibility. Prior circus or gymnastics experience is not required but physically fit students will progress at a faster pace.

The aerial concentrated course will focus on static trapeze, rope, fabric, conditioning, and flexibility. Students will also have the op- portunity to work on other circus disciplines such as handstands and trampoline. Students can expect to learn proper technique, ba- sic vocabulary, and gain strength, flexibility, and aerial stamina. Pri- or circus or gymnastics experience is not required but physically fit students will progress at a faster pace.

 

Tuition:
Each 2-week concentrated course costs $800, or you may choose to attend both for a discounted cost of $1400 total (a $200 discount). Each 2-week concentrated course includes:
• 50 hours of class time including 4 hours of flying trapeze
• A night out to Seattle’s Teatro Zinzanni’s dinner cabaret
There will be opportunities to sign up for extra classes and lessons at an additional cost

Requirements for the Acrobatics Intensive
• Participants must be available from January 2nd –January 13th, 2017.
• Participants must be in good health and physically fit.
• Participants must be able to complete:
– Ten or pushups from feet or knees
– Thirty sit-ups
– Fifteen V-ups
– Fifteen frog jumps
• Participants must submit a video of themselves demonstrating the above skills and send it
as a YouTube link along with their application and skill evaluation to schools@sancaseattle.org

Requirements for the Aerial Concentrated Course
Participants must be available from January 16th – January 27th, 2017.
• Participants must be in good health and physically fit.
• Participants must be able to complete:
– Straight hang from a bar for 30 seconds
– Tuck hang (knees to chest) from a bar for 30 seconds – Ten or more push-ups from feet or knees
– Pike stretch, straddle stretch, and a bridge
• Participants must submit a video of themselves demonstrating the above skills and send it
as a YouTube link along with their application and skill evaluation to schools@sancaseattle.org
