Immerse Yourself in Circus

Overview

SANCA’s Intensive Programs are two-week immersive training sessions geared towards physically fit individuals who are interested in expanding their knowledge of circus arts.

Classes are held Monday through Friday from 10am – 4pm, with an hour break for lunch. All classes will take place at the School of Acrobatics & New Circus Arts at 674 S. Orcas St. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

Students are responsible for their own housing, meals, and transportation.

2020 January Intensive Program

General Aerial Intensive Course

January 6-17, 2020

Acrobatics Intensive Course
January 20 – 31, 2020

Intermediate/Advanced Aerial Intensive Course
January 20 – 31, 2020

Full month program includes either General Aerial and Acrobatics or Intermediate/Advanced Aerial.

Students are responsible for their own housing, meals, and transportation.

Course Descriptions:

The Acrobatics Intensive course

will focus on a variety of ground disciplines, including tumbling, handstands, trampoline, and partner acrobatics. Daily programming will include conditioning and flexibility. Students will also work on other circus disciplines such as tightwire, rolling globe, and juggling. Students can expect to learn proper technique, basic vocabulary, and gain strength and flexibility. Prior circus or gymnastics experience is not required but movement experience will be an advantage.

This intensive is 50 hours of class time, including 4 hours of flying trapeze.

The General Aerial Intensive course

will focus on static trapeze, rope, and fabric. Daily programming will include conditioning and flexibility. Students will also work on other circus disciplines such as handstands and trampoline. Students can expect to learn proper technique, basic vocabulary, and gain strength, flexibility, and aerial stamina. Prior circus or gymnastics experience is not required but movement experience will be an advantage.

This intensive is 50 hours of class time, including 4 hours of flying trapeze.

The Intermediate/Advanced Aerial Intensive course

will intensify your training and add to your current aerial experience. The intermediate to advanced aerial section is for applicants who have already studied some form of aerial arts. Students will be able to specialize in their choice of apparatus in the morning and will improve their ground and generalist skills in the afternoon. This year, SANCA is offering specialization in these aerial arts: Rope, fabric, static trapeze, lyra/aerial hoop, and duo aerial work.

This intensive is 50 hours of class time, including 4 hours of flying trapeze.

 

Tuition

• Aerial Session 1 (January 7-18, 2019): $960
• Aerial Session 2 (January 21 – February 1, 2019): $960
• Acrobatics Session 2 (January 21 – February 1, 2019): $960
• Full month: $1,760

Tuition includes SANCA’s registration fee.

This program is not eligible for scholarships or work-study.

Application Process

• Create a youtube video containing the required skills (see below). You may also include up to two minutes of other skills such as acrobatics, aerial, or any other type of circus or movement related activity (yoga, dance, martial arts, etc.) A link to this video is required in the online application.
• Fill out the online application and skill evaluation form.

Deadline: Monday, October 28th. Submit your application to be considered for our 2-week or month-long intensive in aerial and acrobatics.

General Acrobatics Intensive Requirements

  • Participants must be available from January 20-31, 2020.
  • Participants must be in good health and physically fit.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
  • Participants must be able to demonstrate:
    • Ten or more push-ups from feet or knees
    • Twenty V-ups
    • Fifteen frog jumps
    • Pike stretch, straddle stretch, and a bridge

General Aerial Intensive Requirements

  • Participants must be available from January 6-17, 2020
  • Participants must be in good health and physically fit.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
  • Participants must be able to demonstrate:
    • Straight hang from a bar for 30 seconds
    • Tuck hang (knees to chest) from a bar for 30 seconds
    • Ten or more push-ups from feet or knees
    • Pike stretch, straddle stretch, and a bridge

Intermediate/Advanced Aerial Intensive Requirements

  • Participants must be available from January 20-31, 2020.
  • Participants must be in good health and physically fit.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
  • Participants must be able to demonstrate:
    • Tuck hang (knees to chest) from a bar for 45 seconds
    • Long hang (on vertical) for 45 seconds
    • Ten or more push-ups from feet
    • Splits, Pike stretch, straddle stretch, pancake stretch, bridge, straight leg bridge
    • 3-5 pull-ups
    • Demonstrated skill and technique on aerial apparatus of choice and other specialized skills as listed:
      • VERTICAL APPLICANTS: Straddle climb, straddle ups on both sides, footlocks, double footlocks, hip keys on both sides, bell beats
      • LYRA/TRAPEZE APPLICANTS: Pullovers, Russian rolls, single knee hang (both sides), toe/heel hangs (to best of ability), Straddle ups under bar

2019 Summer Circus Intensive

June 10th – June 21st, 2019

Class will be held Monday – Friday from 10am-4pm, with an hour break for lunch. All classes will take place at the School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts at 674 S. Orcas St. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

Students are responsible for their own housing, meals, and transportation.

Course Description:

This two-week program will challenge students with exploration in aerial arts, object manipulation, equilibristics, and floor acrobatics. The program is suitable for strong participants with a movement background, or students with intermediate circus experience. This intensive is 50 hours of class time, including 4 hours of flying trapeze.

This is a generalist program, and students are expected to take part in all classes to better their understanding of circus arts as a whole.

Tuition

• June 10th – 21st, 2019 –  $960

Tuition includes SANCA’s registration fee.

This program is not eligible for scholarships or work-study.

Circus Intensive Requirements

  • Participants must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
  • Participants must be able to demonstrate:
    • Ten or more push-ups from feet or knees
    • Twenty V-ups
    • Fifteen frog jumps
    • Pike stretch, straddle stretch, and a bridge
