Position Description:
The Director of Human Resources is a key role at SANCA, with responsibility for Human Resources and administrative services. The Director of Human Resources reports to the Executive Director.

- Directs, plans and manages the organizations Human Resources functions including:
– Employee relations, recruitment, selection and onboarding, classification and compensation administration, benefit programs
– Federal and State laws regarding employment
– Investigation of personnel complaints, including serving as the primary point of contact for harassment claims, and their proactive investigation, evaluation, and resolution - Works with the Executive Director to develop Human Resource policy.
- Leads SANCA’s risk management program, claims management, accident, incident, and injury reporting, and Workers’ Compensation.
- Leads the administration of all personnel records, ensuring files are up-to-date and accurate
- Manages personnel issues, including recruitment, employment, position descriptions, disciplinary actions, grievances, performance problems, and evaluations
- Ensures SANCA’s human resources efforts align with approved policies and procedures that ensure diversity, equity, and inclusion among staff
- Works closely with management and employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
- Responsible for managing organizational insurance policies and renewal procedures.
- Provides guidance and input on staff restructure, workforce planning, and succession planning.
- Manages the organization’s general liability, property and special events insurance programs, and coordinates related issues through insurance carriers.
- Handles other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum qualifications:
A minimum of four years of experience in non-profit organization operations, human resources, or related work is required. Candidates must have the ability to learn and grow on the job, excel in a fast-paced environment, and work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn:
- Principles and practices of human resources administration including classification and compensation; insurance and benefits administration; recruitment and retention; training; employee relations; and management, investigation and resolution of grievances.
- Principles, techniques and methods of occupational health and safety administration; workers’ compensation rules and regulations; OSHA, WISHA, L&I, and national industry safety standards.
- Record keeping and file maintenance principles and procedures.
- Contract management including leasing, subleasing, service contracts, and purchase agreements.
Skilled in:
- Reading, interpreting, understanding, and applying employment standards, procedures, applicable Federal and State rules and regulations, and SANCA policies and procedures.
- Analyzing problems, resolving disputes and grievances, and recommending effective solutions.
- Developing and administering human resources plans, policies, and procedures.
- Operating and troubleshooting office computers, servers, and a variety of software applications and systems.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- Managing a diverse workforce and serving a diverse population with a broad spectrum of skills and abilities.
- Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
COMPENSATION:
This position is a full-time Salary, 40 hours a week position. The salary range (Director level) for the position is $61,000 – $79,00. Benefits include paid vacation time, sick/safe leave, paid holidays, free circus classes for staff, free and/or discounted circus classes for the direct family of staff, and free use of SANCA’s gym for training and fitness. At this time, SANCA does not provide health insurance but does provide a $400 healthy lifestyle stipend per month. However, there is a working plan to provide that benefit to full-time staff in the future.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and bending in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement using a computer keyboard. The position requires near and far vision in reading correspondence, using a computer, and in the safe supervision of staff and students. The ability to communicate is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag and push equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is occasionally required.
