Program Manager, Aerial Department

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Aerial Program Manager takes the lead on developing the structure of the aerial program, as well as ensuring instructional safety, consistency, and excellence. The Aerial Program Manager works closely with the Athletic Director to lead the aerial team of coaches. They report to the Athletic Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  The list is a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class.  Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Creates the basic curriculum and graduation requirements for all classes within the teen and adult aerial program at SANCA Georgetown and ECTA locations in collaboration with the Athletic Director.
  • Works to integrate the programs at both SANCA Georgetown and ECTA locations to ensure and maintain consistency between the schools.
  • Communicates class level descriptions and advancement requirements to both coaches and students.
  • In cooperation with Athletic Director, organizes and hosts Professional Development trainings for aerial coaches
  • Aids Athletic Director with the hands-on aerial portion of training for all circus coaches
  • Works to develop standards/processes for coaches entering the Aerial program from other programs at SANCA. (eg, shadowing, TA, etc)
  • Contributes to the recruitment/hiring process, along with the Athletic Director for prospective aerial coaches from outside SANCA (ie, attends workshops, reviews submitted materials, creates mock classes to assess coaches).
  • Works with the Athletic Director to evaluate the performance of aerial coaches within the Aerial program.
  • Provides support to other aerial coaches as questions/problems arise, and leads by example as an excellent aerial coach.
  • Lends expertise to rigging setup and aerial equipment acquisition and maintenance including regular rigging and equipment assessments and cleaning.  
  • The aerial manager will also have coaching hours associated with this position that are paid at a separate coaching rate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the aerial arts, be skilled in the various disciplines within the aerial arts (Aerial Fabric, Rope, Static Trapeze, etc.)  and be comfortable leading coaches to new heights of excellence in the aerial arts .  They will work well with others and have a strong ability to foster a creative, open-minded work environment; they will be open to new and different ideas, with a willingness to celebrate the successes of their team members. They are also able to work independently when necessary. 

Strong work experience in a related position would reflect a candidate likely to hit the ground running and be successful in this role. We will also consider candidates whose experiences and learning have come through non-traditional paths. 

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

This position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, and bending in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping and repetitive hand movement using a computer keyboard. The position requires near and far vision in reading correspondence, using a computer, and in the safe supervision of staff and students. The ability to communicate is required when providing phone and personal service.

COMPENSATION:

This is a part-time, hourly position. We expect  10-15 hours/week regularly with an occasional max of 20 hours/week based on specific projects. Hours are flexible weekly work hours, with some weekend availability.  Compensation for this role is $26/ hour. Benefits include free circus classes for staff when available, free and/or discounted circus classes for direct family of staff, and free use of SANCA’s gym for training and fitness during open hours, and during closed hours with some requirements.
