Alyssa began her circus life when she was sixteen years old and flew on the trapeze for the first time at Club Med Sandpiper. Since then, she has trained and worked at San Francisco Circus Center, Club Med, Long Lake Camp for the Arts, and here at SANCA. She has trained extensively under Aimee Hancock, Lara Paxton, Eric Newton, Kari Hunter, Rachel Nehmer, and Ben Wendel. Alyssa started working at SANCA in 2009 as the Director of Flying Trapeze and was a catcher for 17 years (some of those years were before her time at SANCA). She has also been co-director and coach of Stratus Circus and Nimbus Circus, the latter of which she helped found, and she has taught aerial classes to kids and adults throughout her time here. She also has a Ph.D. in Feminist Studies and teaches a class called “Gender and Sport” at the University of Washington and she’s learning full-stack web development through UW as well!
