Celestial Circus

About Celestial:

Celestial Circus is a performance troupe that was founded in 2019 and serves teens with marginalized identities within the SANCA community. Celestial Circus meets up weekly and aims to instill resiliency, self-esteem, and community building into its participants. Celestial Circus also seeks to broaden the scope of SANCA’s programming by offering an accessible, collaborative approach to performance for youth who may not otherwise be able to access performance arts. Coaches encourage students to be self-leading, express their creativity, and exercise autonomy to build performances that are inspiring, meaningful and representative of the group’s ideas and values. SANCA’s scholarship program removes the economic barriers to performance arts for the members of this group. Celestial Circus’s motto is “Creating art through community.”

Who can audition and how do you apply?

Students must be receiving a scholarship from SANCA to take classes. A student may ask their coach and/or the front office. Families will be put in touch with the Lead Coach of the troupe.

When can you enroll?
Students are typically enrolled during the Fall Session. They may try a trial class during the Fall before enrolling for a session. Based on the number of students, admission may run on a rolling basis.

Enrollment requirements
Students must have taken at least one session class at SANCA and are receiving a scholarship. They will need to be recommended by a SANCA coach.

What to expect in the trial class
Students will be interviewed by current troupe members as a group. They will participate in the warmup and the class activity. There will be a check-in after the trial class with the student to see if the troupe is a good fit. An introduction to the group and the goals of the troupe will occur before the initial trial class by the Lead Coach.
